University of San Diego Wine Classic – July 15th

 

The University of San Diego Alumni Association invites you to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the USD Wine Classic! Join wine aficionados from across the country to enjoy tastes from over 20 wineries, gourmet food, and live entertainment. Event proceeds support the Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund. This Alumni Association signature event has raised more than $850,000 for student scholarships.

Comic Con

Comic Con – July 20-23rd

 

The largest comics and pop culture event in the United States, attracting thousands of artists, celebrities and fans of comic books, movie memorabilia and all things related to pop culture, is returning to San Diego Convention Center on July 20–23. Attendees can enjoy exclusive previews of upcoming feature films, portfolio-review sessions with top comic book and video game companies, and evening events such as awards ceremonies and the Masquerade, a costume contest; and the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, which showcases shorts and feature-length movies that do not have distribution or distribution deals.

Liberty Station Art District Art Walk – August 4-6th

 

ArtWalk @ Liberty Station celebrates 18 years of bringing fine art to San Diego at the beautiful Liberty Station. The show celebrates creativity from both sides of the border, with more than 150 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramic, jewelry and sculpture. Saturday and Sunday are free entry, Friday is an exclusive event that requires a paid ticket for entry.

Torrey Pines Gliderport

 

What a fun way to see aviation in action, from the top of the Torrey Pines Bluffs! Gliderport is home to one of the most historic aviation sites in North America.  Be in awe as you watch paragliding, hang gliding, remote control models and sailplanes take flight over the La Jolla Bluffs and enjoy a coast view for miles.  Bring a picnic or grab some lunch at the Cliffhanger Café and have front row seats to an amazing aviation experience!

Train Rides at the Old Poway Park

 

The Poway-Midland Railroad is a full-size, narrow-gauge railroad in Old Poway Park which carries passengers aboard vintage and antique railroad equipment. The railroad is owned by the City of Poway, and operated by the Poway Midland Railroad Volunteers. Through the restoration, preservation, and operation of vintage railroad equipment, the Volunteers are able to offer the community a vintage train ride around the park and provide educational programs as well.

Cabrillo National Monument

 

Located right at the tip of Point Loma is the Cabrillo National Monument statue honoring Cabrillo, who discovered San Diego Bay. All in one location you have the Bayside Trail that offers spectacular views of San Diego Bay, tide pool area that offers a unique opportunity to see shore creatures up close and personal, or you can guide yourself through the old 1855 built lighthouse… basically lots of history, mixed with breathtaking views of downtown! Count me in.

Annie’s Canyon Trail

 

Enjoy the outdoors with an adventurous day exploring the sandstone crevasse that has created a hiking path up to a 200-foot elevation above sea level. The canyon was sculpted by water over time, which poured over sandstone and smoothed its surface into narrow corridors with sandy footing like a dry creek bed.  Whether you hike through the steep switchbacks, or choose the winding path to the overlook, once you reach the top you are welcomed with panoramic ocean and lagoon views! It’s an experience the whole family will enjoy.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a popular destination by travelers because of its 1,750 acres of stunning overlooks, peaceful trails, and beautiful environment… and right below, Torrey Pines State Beach. Whichever destination you choose, you will be in awe.

Mount Soledad Lookout

 

Mt. Soledad is one of the top 5 viewpoints to see when visiting San Diego. A living memorial with breathtaking panoramic views is considered a bit of a secret gem in La Jolla. The dense vegetation and local wildlife such as rabbits, foxes, and bobcats has provided a natural feel within a city environment. The hike to the summit is approximately 1.3 miles with plenty of rest stops so that you can enjoy the views… but if the trails are too much, simply take a leisurely drive to the summit to enjoy the views.

Star Theatre

 

The Star Theatre is the largest of  Balch’s 17 theaters that were located in the state of California and the last one that is still open resides in downtown Oceanside. You can’t miss the iconic marquee and the history that the theater holds.

Whether you catch a classical musical or set the kids up for theatre summer camp, the Star Theatre is one you want to be sure to check out for memorable entertainment.

Spruce Street Suspension Bridge

 

One of our favorite things to do is soak up the beautiful San Diego weather, which means a lot of our favorite activities involve the outdoors. However, this one is not for those who are afraid of heights. Bring your bravery and take a stroll across this 375 foot long suspension bridge, it’s a San Diego must. The Spruce Street Suspension Bridge was built in 1912, and is hidden within the residential neighborhood of Bankers Hill. Beware: The bridge suspends over a giant canyon and word around town is that with a sharp wind gust, the bridge can swing slightly, WHEEEEE! 🙂

Oceanside Harbor Boat Rentals

Opened in 1980 and still a staple in your San Diego bucket list.

La Jolla Cove Snorkel Tour

Old Town Historic Park

 

Old Town State Historic Park preserves the original Euro-American settlement in San Diego, established in the 1820s when San Diego was a part of the newly independent nation of Mexico. A beautiful place to connect to the past and explore the history of our very own city. The core of restored original historic buildings from the interpretive period are complemented by reconstructed sites, along with early twentieth century buildings designed in the same mode. Five original adobe buildings are part of the historic park, which include museums, unique retail shops, and several restaurants.

El Corazon Aquatics Center

 

A little different from your traditional neighborhood park, but no less entertaining… El Corazon Aquatics Center is the City of Oceanside’s first ever world-class aquatics center that will provide competition-level amenities. Whether you’re swimming 50-meter laps to train for the Olympics, showing off your latest dance moves in water aerobics class, or taking the kids to the splash pad… there is truly an option for everyone.

La Jolla Caves

 

Check out the world famous Sunny Jim Sea Cave in Ja Jolla. The unique and beautiful cave has a manmade tunnel from inside the Cave Store with a 145-step decent which allows you to enter the Sunny Jim Cave by land – this is the only cave you are able to access by land on the California coastline.  It’s truly a great experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Harper’s Topiary Garden

 

Harper’s Topiary Garden was created by a Mission Hills couple about 15 years ago who wanted to turn their front yard into a masterful work of art that everyone could enjoy and appreciate. Gawk at over 50 life-sized figurines all trimmed by hand. The owners of this property were inspired by their travels all around the world and transformed their basic shrubbery into sculptured art pieces.  While the owners welcome visitors to enjoy their natural art, please do not touch or enter the private residence. It is there to visually enjoy and of course photograph for your unique Insta post!

Batiquitos Lagoon

 

The famous Batiquitos Lagoon runs between the cities of Carlsbad and Encinitas. Our favorite spot to access is off of Gabbiano Lane, which is South Carlsbad. After priding myself for being a San Diego native and seeing the Batiquitos trails over and over again, I just recently stumbled upon a hidden gem… swings! They overlook the entire lagoon, with views of the Pacific Ocean in the distance. What better way to wind down and enjoy a sunset after a long day?
