A quick guide to decorating your home with indoor plants, for beginners and notorious plant killers alike.

It’s no secret that indoor plants are SO on trend, but a bigger secret may be how to do it without breaking the bank or murdering several innocent cacti in the process. Plus, indoor plants offer several health benefits such as, stress reduction and improved air quality. We all want that Instagram-worthy look, but at a price that’s right and maintenance that’s reasonable. Luckily, we’ve found the perfect combination of aesthetically pleasing plants and pots for every room in the house and outlined how to care for them.

We’ve picked plants that don’t require a lot of attention, because let’s be real, no one has time for that. Even the green thumb gurus have killed a plant or two, so if one of them dies on you don’t stress, its an opportunity to redecorate!

Quick Tip: Set a reminder on your phone to notify you when its time to water your plants.

BEDROOM:

Snake Plant (Sansevierta)

• Minimal Direct Sunlight
• Water once or twice a month
• Purifies the air

LIVING ROOM:

Spider Plant (Chlorophytum Comosum)

• Indirect Sunlight
• Water every 2 to 3 days, less in winter
• Absorbs carbon monoxide

KITCHEN:

Aloe Vera

• Bright Light
• Water once or twice a month, less in winter
• Good for digestive health

BATHROOM:

Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema Modestum)

• Thrives in low light
• Water every couple of days, less in winter
• Reduces Stress

 

Although they don’t quite make the “simple and easy” list, we thought we would give them a mention! That’s right, everyone asks us about the delicate and delightful Fiddle Leaf Figs. They’re more on the temperamental side regarding watering, light, and even dust but they’re so beautiful. In case you and your green thumb are brave enough to take one of these on, here are a couple of tips we’ve gathered:

1. Bright but indirect sunlight is the sweet spot with these babies! Not only do they love lots of sunshine, but they flourish best in rainforest-like humid climates. So if you’re tree is looking fatigued or it’s leaves start to brown, set up a humidifier nearby.
2. Once a week grab a damp towel and keep the leaves of your tree clean from dust and dirt or they will literally “suffocate”.
3. Do not move the plant around to different places in your home. They thrive on stability and will drop leaves when moved.
4. Keep it away from any type of wind, vent, or draft. They are not a “fan” of too much breeze. 😉
5. Fiddle leaf figs don’t like soil that is too wet or soil that is too dry, so you might have to figure that one out on your own!
6. Why do they call it a fiddle leaf fig… It sounds like it’s more of a fickle leaf fig!

 

 

In addition to being low maintenance, these plants can be potted in a variety of containers. This is where you can feel free to express your personal style, as containers come in a multitude of colors, patterns, shapes and sizes. We prefer a clean, modern look that goes with virtually everything. When picking a container, keep in mind that you want one similar to your plant in terms of size, with adequate drainage.
